Our Story
The Long Lost Heroes Podcast is a new adventure that Aj Sherman and Frank Marsilio have embarked on. The name Long Lost Heroes is an homage to the alternative rock band that the two were a part of during their formative high school years. The Long Lost Heroes were founded in the summer of 2004 in Commack, NY by Aj (guitar, lead vocals), Frank (bass, backing vocals) and Matthew Zion-Basile (guitar). They performed their first show at Commack High School’s In The Spotlight, the school’s series of acoustic shows, in October 2004 with drummer Ari Daniels. Through most of 2005, the band honed their style while working on covers of their favorite bands and writing original music. Ari went on to focus on his own projects and the band members were introduced to Matt Birnbaum before the end of their sophomore year, who would become the bands permanent drummer. The group spent the summer of 2005 preparing for the big Welcome Back show in the high school football stadium, with an audience of all of the students and faculty. The band’s success at this show kick-started a long stretch of performances between 2005-2007, where the group played many popular covers of some of their favorite songs by artists such as the Dave Matthews Band, Pink Floyd, Foo Fighters, Radiohead, The Beatles and more. Interspersed with the covers, the guys would perform their own original songs, echoing the life of being a teenager on Long Island. Unfortunately, with the pending graduation of three of the band’s founding members, the Long Lost Heroes disbanded in 2007. Aj and Frank have very fond memories for those great years as band-mates and have recently been inspired to come together and work on a new passion project. The Long Lost Heroes Podcast will have a bi-weekly release and will cover the latest in pop-culture, genre movies, tv, comics and video games.
