Hey everyone! So, maybe you’ve watched every MCU movie a million times. Maybe you’ve even rewatched them all in chronological order gearing up for the release of Avengers: Endgame this weekend (like Frank Marsilio). Or MAYBE you’ve missed a ton of the movies and are really confused by what the big deal is! Either way, we wrote up a primer to recap the major films, plot points and character arcs from Marvel’s The Avengers up through Thor: Ragnarok, because you should totally go watch or re-watch Avengers: Infinity War (available on Netflix) before sitting down to see Avengers: Endgame this weekend! Get caught up with us; we are seeing the film on Saturday, April 27th in glorious IMAX 3D and will have a full spoiler-filled discussion on the epic conclusion to the Infinity Saga, ready for your listening pleasure by your Monday morning commute. The Avengers saved the world in the Battle of New York! Iron Man nearly risked his life and suffers from PTSD. Thor takes Loki prisoner to Asgard as well as the Tesseract for safe keeping. Thor eventually returns to Earth to save Natalie Portman after she finds the Aether which bonds to her body. An evil guy wants it blah blah, Loki dies (?) they almost destroy England but they win. Thor sends the Aether to some space friends for safe keeping as well. The other Avengers are off doing their own thing, but Captain America is still adjusting to life in the modern world. He joins SHIELD and lives in DC. Nick Fury discovers that SHIELD has been infiltrated by HYDRA (the organization that Cap thought he destroyed in WWII) and has to fake his death. Cap encounters a man called the Winter Soldier, who turns out to be his presumed dead best friend Bucky from the 40’s, who now has a metal arm and had his memory erased! Cap, with the help of Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow) and his new buddy Sam aka the Falcon take down HYDRA and SHIELD with it in order to save the lives of millions of people on Earth. Bucky goes on the run after Cap tries to convince him of his true self. Unfortunately, the HYDRA goons stole Loki’s scepter and experimented on the TWINS (aka not Michelle from Full House but their younger sister Elizabeth Olsen) and some other dude that does a really bad Polish accent. They HATE Tony Stark because he blew up their village and killed their family.

In space the Guardians of the Galaxy (Chris Pratt and Groot and co) are badass and funny and have the best music. They save the planet Xandar from an evil guy trying to destroy it with the Power Stone.

The Avengers get back together to wipe up the rest of the HYDRA goons and recover Loki’s scepter. In doing so, Tony wants to experiment with the scepter to create an AI program that is supposed to protect the world. But OF COURSE it backfires and he creates an evil AI program that sounds like James Spader that builds itself a crazy robot body and controls an army of killer robots! James Spader teams up with the Twins because they all hate Tony Stark of course. James Spader took the scepter and reveals that the Mind Stone is hidden inside. He wants to use it to create a brand new body that is indestructible made from the same material as Cap’s shield. The Avengers stop him from uploading to the new body and instead put Iron Man’s trusty program JARVIS in the body and create THE VISION! The Twins realize his evil ways and join the Avengers. They stop James Spader but not before almost destroying the world and laying waste to Eastern Europe. The Hulk is sad because he does so much damage so he gets in a ship and flies away off the Earth. The bad accent guy sacrifices himself for Hawkeye and a little kid. Elizabeth Olsen is sad at the death of her brother but maybe is starting to fall in love with our Vision robot guy (who also is worthy of wielding Thor’s hammer!) Thor realizes that someone is pulling the strings and that several of the Infinity Stones popping up recently is probably not a coincidence (The Tesseract from the 1st Avengers, the Aether, the Mind Stone and the Power Stone). He wants to go “figure it out” and flies off of Earth.

Meanwhile, the Avengers accidentally kill a bunch of civilians on a mission. The UN wants to enact a registration document to put the Avengers in check, but they all start to disagree. Cap believes if they sign, the government might send them somewhere they shouldn’t or might not let them go where they should. Iron Man feels super guilty and thinks they need to be put in check. A bad guy who lost his family in the Eastern Europe disaster starts to manipulate events pitting our heroes against each other. He frames Cap’s friend Bucky in the murder of the Black Panther’s dad, and Cap tries to help Bucky but they get arrested and are dubbed CRIMINALS. Evil bad guy messes with Bucky’s mind and escapes, but not before Cap tries to bring him back in. They are on the run with Cap’s other friend Sam. Eventually there is a huge epic showdown at an airport between Cap’s team: Cap, Bucky, Sam, Elizabeth Olsen (aka Scarlett Witch), Ant-Man (PAUL RUDD!) and Hawkeye vs. Iron Man’s team: Iron Man, Rhodey (War Machine), VISION, Black Panther, Black Widow (ScarJo) and…Spider-MAN! Yeah, so Tony has been monitoring this little kid from Queens that got bit by a spider and now has AMAZING powers. So it’s like the best fight ever, but eventually Cap and Bucky get away when Black Widow flips to help them and gulp, Vision accidentally shoots War Machine out of the sky, and he gets paralyzed. Tony realizes that Cap is right, the bad guy has been pulling the strings and trying to find and reactivate these other super soldiers off in Siberia. He follows him “as a friend” not knowing that Black Panther is flying behind him. Unfortunately…evil bad guy reveals that it wasn’t about the super soldiers and that he wanted to destroy the Avengers from within, having them fight each other. Tony finds out that when Bucky used to be the Winter Soldier under mind control, he killed Tony’s parents :( Tony asked if Cap knew, and while he didn’t know Bucky did it, he knew HYDRA was behind it and it wasn’t an accident. Black Panther realizes that Bucky didn’t kill his dad, and stops the bad guy from killing himself. Tony wants to kill Bucky, but Cap tries to stop him and they all fight. Bucky loses his metal arm, but eventually Cap and Bucky overwhelm Tony and they have a falling out. Cap leaves his shield, because Tony says “my father made you that shield, you don’t deserve it!” So yeah, the Avengers break up like the Beatles, but not before Cap gets his friends out of prison. He sends Tony a FedEx with a nice letter and a phone to reach him, if the time ever arises, and Tony seems to be in better spirits about it. Bucky goes to Black Panther to help fix his brain. Cap and his friends are on the run as a sort of secret Avengers team.

Meanwhile, Benedict Cumberbatch aka Dr Strange, gets in a car accident, busts up his hands and learns to be a sorcerer. He realizes one of his relics is the Time Stone (#5) and saves the world from a dark dimension with the help of his sorcerer friends. Yeah, that’s a movie haha.

Thor is off in space trying to figure out who’s messing with the Infinity Stones, goes back to Asgard to find none other than his brother Loki, alive! He’s impersonating their father Anthony Hopkins, and have to go to Earth to find their real dad. Dr Strange stops them when they get to Earth because remember the last time Loki was on Earth? Anyway he points them in the direction of their dad, but he dies of old age not before revealing that Thor actually has an evil older sister! When he dies, she shows up, destroys his hammer and banishes Loki and Thor to a random planet where…Thor finds his old buddy the HULK! They fight in a gladiator match, escape the planet to go save Asgard from his sister. Thor realizes that Asgard is a people not a place, so he evacuates the planet and causes Ragnorak, which destroys the planet and his sister, not before Loki swipes the Tesseract from the throne room. The movie ends with a dark ship approaching theirs…who could it be, but the man pulling the strings all along…THANOS!
